LOST IN THE LANDSCAPE
A whimsical, romantic journey through the wilds of South West Ireland, set to our original song, “Out of the Blue,” composed and performed by (and starring) Melinda Joy and Son of Cormack. The song and video explore the ambiguity of new love, the influence of landscape on the imagination, and a longing for “the shape of a new life, more wild and free.” Produced, written, and directed by the artists, and filmed on location in Ireland (West Cork, Kerry, Wicklow, and Dublin) with cinematography, editing, and additional direction by Juro Kosec.
Out of the Blue originated as a poem Melinda wrote, inspired by the rugged coastal landscapes of South West Ireland, coupled with a bit of romance. From there it evolved into a song in collaboration with Son of Cormack, and then into a music video in the form of a short film set to the song-as-soundtrack, filmed indie-style by the artists on location in Ireland with filmmaker and editor Juro Kosec.
Director Biographies
Melinda Joy Rothouse, George McCormack & Juro Kosec
Melinda Joy Rothouse is a singer-songwriter/bass player whose songs interweave poetic lyrics (many originally written as stand-alone poems) with bass and melody lines that draw from a variety of genres. Soulful, jazzy, and lush, her sound has been described as “Southern Gothic.” Based in Austin, TX, and Mexico, she currently writes, performs, and teaches both solo and with HoneyBones (a new duo project with Juro Kosec), Ravens 5 and Son of Cormack. She has released two full-length studio albums, Beautiful Illusions (2020) and Unbound (2004) with her debut band, M.J. Baby & The Last Word.
In addition to her musical endeavors, Melinda holds a Ph.D. in psychology / creativity studies. She is the host and creator of the podcast Syncreate: Empowering Creativity, which explores the intersections between creativity, psychology, and spirituality, and expands the boundaries of what it means to be creative with guests working in a wide range of fields and media. She’s also the author of two bestselling books on creativity, one of which won a Silver Nautilus Award for Creativity and Innovation.
George McCormack (Son of Cormack) is a British singer/songwriter, guitarist, and digital artist with Irish and Scottish roots. He grew up in English pubs listening to jukebox lullabies, lived in London for a decade, and now resides in Austin, Texas.
BBC INTRODUCING has featured several of his singles on the radio. He appeared on the BBC Introducing stage at Lakefest Festival in the grounds of Eastnor Castle and has been a guest live on air with BBC Hereford & Worcester. His first full-length album will release in 2026.
Juro Kosec is a filmmaker, writer, and visual artist. His work moves between short film, music video, movement, and symbolic image — exploring transformation, perception, memory, and the unstable border between fate and human agency. He is drawn to films that think through rhythm and atmosphere as much as through narrative.
Rooted in music, visual art, and a sustained discipline of self-inquiry, he approaches cinema as both craft and a way of knowing — drawn to emotionally charged forms where the visible world brushes against something harder to name. At this stage, he creates short films and music videos, while continuing to explore where this language may evolve next.
